I’ve realized something.
You don’t really ever grow up… At least, I don’t think I ever will. Call it what you will, but I still possess a lot of the same characteristics, habits, and opinions I had when I was five…
I play with my food.
I find pleasure in coloring books… Coloring in the red lips first, of course.
I run after ducks, pigeons, geese… You name it, I scare it.
I wear tights with rips in them… Didn’t really look suitable in our family christmas cards when I was three and doesn’t really look suitable now.
I am in bed by 11 pm on most nights.
I am scared of clowns with big, tangled red whigs and white faces.
I bite the heads of my animal crackers off first… Don’t worry, they don’t have feelings.
I have to be reminded to shower more than less often.
I laugh when people hurt themselves.
I love glitter and stickers and anything shiny.
I’d rather have ice cream for breakfast.
I find ways to add sugar to everything… The sweeter, the better.
Take this dip, for example. No spices or vegetables or anything green…
Chocolate Chip Dip
adapted from this recipe
(yields 2 cups)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 oz reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
In a small bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy. Add the sugars and vanilla; beat until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Serve with graham crackers, animal crackers, or pretzel sticks.
